What can you do for your immune system to improve?

The human body is made up of trillions and trillions of cells. These cells combine to form organs or tissues that serve specific functions. A cell that dies will be replaced by another. Chemical signals, called hormones, allow cells to communicate with each other. Hormones regulate all bodily processes, from growth and development to metabolism and immunity.

Hormones are chemical substances that glands secrete throughout the body. They travel through bloodstreams and act as messengers that control the function of our bodies. Some hormones come from the body and others from outside.

The release of hormones from a hormone producing gland into the bloodstream is the beginning of hormone production. Once hormones have been released, they travel through the body until reaching their target organ. In some cases, hormones remain active only for a short period of time. Other hormones can remain active longer, and they continue to affect the body's functionality even after leaving the bloodstream.

Some hormones may be produced in large numbers. Others are produced in smaller amounts.

Some hormones are produced at certain times during life. Estrogen is one example. It's produced in puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Estrogen helps women develop breasts, maintain bone density, and prevent osteoporosis. It helps to stimulate hair growth and maintains skin's softness.

How To

What does the meaning of "vitamin?"

Vitamins are organic compounds naturally found in food. Vitamins allow us to absorb nutrients from food. Vitamins cannot be made by the body; they must be taken from food.

There are two types vitamins: water soluble or fat soluble. Water soluble vitamins dissolve easily in water. Some examples include vitamin C,B1 and B2 vitamins (thiamine), B2 and riboflavin, B3 and B6 vitamins (niacin), folic acids, biotin, pantothenic acids, and cholesterol. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the liver and fatty tissue. Some examples include vitamin D and E, K, A and beta carotene.

Vitamins are classified according their biological activity. There are eight major categories of vitamins.

  • A - Essential for healthy growth and health maintenance.
  • C is important for nerve function and energy production.
  • D - necessary for healthy bones and teeth.
  • E is required for good vision and reproduction.
  • K - essential for healthy muscles, nerves, and bones.
  • P - vital for building strong bones andteeth.
  • Q - Aids in digestion and absorption.
  • R - Required for red blood cell production

The recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamins varies depending on age, gender, and physical condition. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has established the RDA values.

For example, the RDA for vitamin A is 400 micrograms per dayfor adults 19 years or older. For fetal development, pregnant women need 600 mg per day. Children ages 1-8 require 900 micrograms per day. For infants younger than one year, 700 micrograms are required daily. However, this number drops to 500 micrograms each day for children aged 9-12 months.

Children between the ages 1--18 years old who are overweight or obese require 800 micrograms per Day, while those who are overweight or obese need 1000 micrograms. To meet their nutritional needs, children underweight and obese require 1200 micrograms a day.

Children ages 4-8 years who have been diagnosed with anemia need 2200 micrograms per day of vitamin C.

2000 micrograms daily is required for adults over 50 to maintain their general health. Breastfeeding or pregnant women require 3000 micrograms per daily due to higher nutrient demands.

Adults over 70 years of age need 1500 micrograms per day since they lose about 10% of their muscle mass each decade.

Women who are pregnant or lactating need more than the RDA. Pregnant women require 4000 micrograms daily during pregnancy, and 2500 micrograms every day after birth. Breastfeeding mothers need to consume 5000 micrograms every day when breastmilk has been produced.
